Al-Sharif al-Jurjani, grammar book, Ottoman Turkey, copied April 1469 Small Ottoman manuscript on paper. Text on the grammar of 'Abd al-Qahir al-Jurjani, Hashiyat al-Sayyid al-Sharif 'ala al-Mutawassit fi Sharh' al-Awamil al-Mi'a (Supercommentaries of al-Sayyid al-Sharif on the Mutawassit or explanation of the hundred grammatical elements), 43 folios, 17 lines per page in naskh script in black and gold ink in a gold frame. Small illuminated frontispiece decorated with gilded palmettes on a blue background. Colophon dated end of Ramadan 873 AH/April 1469. Text incomplete at the end, although the colophon indicates that it is complete. Later Ottoman owners' marks at the beginning and end of the volume. Bound in garnet-red leather with stamped and gilt decoration. Old collection or inventory label no. 1130. Accidents, tears, possible missing pages, stains, wormholes, stains, last page half-cut, wear and restoration to binding. 17.5 x 12 cm This text, dating from the period of the famous Ottoman sultan Mehmet II the Conqueror (1444-1446 and 1451-1481), is a commentary on the "hundred grammatical elements" by 'Abd al-Qahir al-Jurjani.
