Jean Ary Bitter (1883-1973) Deer Bronze with brown-green patina Bears the founder's mark "Susse Frs Edts Paris". H. 15.5 x W. 19.5 x D. 3.4 cm, on original wooden base H. 4 x W. 26 x D. 10 cm This Biche is one of twenty-nine Bitter models produced by Susse during the interwar period. Ary Bitter, a native of Marseille, entered the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris in 1902, where he trained with Ernest-Louis Barrias while working in Jules Coutan's studio. In 1910, he took part in the Salon des Artistes français, winning the gold medal in 1924. During the interwar period, Susse published twenty-nine Bitter models.
