Large quarto (37.8 x 33 cm), full fawn calfskin binding with a smooth spine, black title label (lengthwise),—cover missing, binding with scuffs, edges of endpapers scorched - 105 pp. (frontispiece-title page, title page, list of birds, prologue by Flavian Levine, 50 poems, list of illustrators), [1 p. colophon and justification]. Illustrated with 17 color plates printed in offset, mounted on sheets that are part of the pagination, and 50 large ornate initials, printed in green. The 50 poems are themed around birds whose scientific or imaginary names are listed at the beginning of the book.Printed in an edition of 214 copies; this is one of 200 printed on “Hich Bridge” laid paper (unnumbered). First edition published to mark the author’s 60th birthday.
