One quarto volume, publisher's cardboard binding, cloth-covered spine - [64 pp.], 32 plates, including 16 openwork plates. First printing of this transformable book featuring the rare openwork yellow background cover (this design was quickly abandoned due to the technical difficulties involved in perforation, and was replaced by a black cover printed in blue). The dreamlike adventures of a young man, Adrien. The various cut-out patterns in the illustrations shape the transformations of the settings traversed by the young man on his dreamlike journey, as well as the mythological, historical, or fantastical characters he encounters. The text, kept to a minimum, helps the reader navigate the labyrinth of Adrien’s visions while leaving the reader’s imagination the greatest freedom. A rare and curious album that stands in stark contrast to the editorial line of Éditions de Minuit.
