Coinchon, Albert.—Children’s Masks and Buffoons: An Alphabetical and Artistic Album. Paris, A. Martin & Cie, [c. 1870]. In-4, publisher’s cardboard binding with beveled edges, decorated on the front cover with a costumed and masked child replicating the frontispiece (plate by Berger), and on the back cover with a large rosette, plain spine, gray endpapers, gilt edges—corners and caps rubbed, slight tear at the tail joint of the front cover—[28 ff., title page, frontispiece, and 26 letters]. Each of the 26 letters, reproduced in red uppercase and lowercase letters, is accompanied by a color lithograph depicting, in a childlike style, a character from the theatrical repertoire ranging from Harlequin to Zampa. The “W,” which serves as the final letter, features an unlabeled Punch figure. Overall condition: 8/10 - Rarity: 4/5
