Set of 3 plates with “alphabetic” designs. 1/ - Terre de fer, Choisy-le-Roy, H B & Co [H. Hautin and L. Boulanger, 1836–1863]. Dessert plate (20 cm in diameter) with a base decorated with two images: one of a puppet bearing the capital and lowercase letter “P,” and the other a scene of a collection in a church featuring the letter “Q.” The rest of the design consists of fish, a butterfly, and a set of skittles. The rim bears the alphabetical sequence “Babebibobu....Yayeyiyoyu” in green letters, ending at “Zaze.” There is no letter “A.” Small crack and a slight chip on the back. Part of a set of 12 plates. 2/ - Paris, G.D. [G. Dreyfus, trademark registered in 1884]. Dessert plate (19.3 cm in diameter) with a plain white background; only the rim is decorated with a motif of eight children writing the alphabet on a slate, reading the alphabet, or reading a book, with the text “Belles-Lettres” in capital letters. The design is signed “Gédé” [for G. Dreyfus]. Part of a set of 12 plates. 3/ - Deep plate made of white enameled sheet metal, decorated on the bottom with a clock face showing 2:55 p.m. and on the rim with the alphabet in capital letters, featuring a star in the space between the Z and the A. Size: 20.1 cm in diameter. Numerous chips along the rim and on the bottom, and two holes repaired with tin on the outside of the clock face. An unusual and rare item.
