Jean-Jules Cambos (1828-1917) The return of spring Model created in 1883 Cookie Signed J. Cambos Dirt and dust H. 74.5 cm Related work: Jean-Jules Cambos, Le Retour du Printemps, 1883, marble, Castres, Jardin du Mail Representing a young woman delicately lifting a drape over her head, the plaster model Le Retour du Printemps was first exhibited in plaster at the 1883 Salon des Artistes Français. Produced in marble and exhibited at the 1889 Universal Exhibition, as well as in Chigaco and Antwerp, the work was acquired in 1895 by the town of Castres, the sculptor's birthplace. Jean-Jules Cambos trained with sculptor François Jouffroy at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He exhibited at various salons between 1857 and 1904, and at the 1867 Universal Exhibition, where he was awarded a third-class medal for his marble La Cigale. He embarked on an official career, and several of his works were purchased by the French state.
