Studio of Otto BOLLHAGEN (1861-1924) The transatlantic liner Kaiser Wilhem II in Prague Oil on canvas Inscribed lower right and located Bremen Re-staining, wear, restorations 97 x 196 cm This painting would have served as an advertisement for the Norddeutsscher Lloyd shipping company. Completed in 1903 in the shipyards of Stettin, Germany, the Kaiser Wilhem II, a German transatlantic steam liner, served the Norddeutscher Lloyd company alongside its three sister ships, and for a time held the Blue Ribbon. When the First World War broke out, the ship was on neutral ground in New York. She remained there until 1917, when the United States entered the war. Requisitioned, she was renamed the Agammemnon.
