Alfredo Pina (1883-1966) - Lot 172
Alfredo Pina (1883-1966) The kiss Bronze with green patina Signed "A. Pina Bears the founder's stamp "CIRE / A. VALSUANI / LOST H. 51 cm A few scratches Entitled Le Baiser, this embracing couple seated on a rock echoes Auguste Rodin's famous group of the same name. Inexorably attracted by the effervescence of Paris and fascinated by the master of Meudon, Alfredo Pina moved to Paris in 1911. Trained at the Brera Academy in Milan, his artistic journey took him through Bologna and Rome before arriving in the City of Light. The sculptor of The Burghers of Calais was omnipotent at the time, and all young sculptors passed through his studio. Pina was never Rodin's pupil, although some biographies state that the two artists collaborated for several years. Although sources are lacking on this subject, the filiation is obvious.
