The model for this group, featuring two mischievous young women caught in a moment of complicit mockery, was made in 1902, the year Victor Prouvé left Paris for his native Nancy. Best known as a painter and close collaborator of glassmaker Émile Gallé, Victor Prouvé was also a sculptor. Focusing mainly on the theme of women in sinuous, expressive attitudes, his work is associated with the Art Nouveau aesthetic.
The Moqueuses model was also produced in cookie by the Nancy brothers Joseph and Pierre Mougin.
