Hippolyte Maindron (1801-1884) Arab rider attacked by a tiger Circa 1840-1850 Bronze with brown-black patina Signed "H. MAINDRON" on the terrace H. 33.1 x W. 35.2 x D. 13.8 cm A student of David d'Angers at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, Hippolyte Maindron exhibited at the Salon from 1834 to 1880. In 1839, he enjoyed great success with a figure of Velléda contemplating Eudore's home, inspired by Book IX of Châteaubriand's Martyrs published in 1809. He also worked on numerous restoration projects for public monuments, including the Louvre, Pont-Neuf, Fontainebleau Palace and Sens Cathedral.
