Paul Cabet (1815-1876) Portrait of François Rude (1784- 1855) Small life-size bust in plaster Signed and dated "Cabet 1856". Apocryphally titled "François RUDE" on the back H. 28.5 cm Scratches, accidents and soiling This expressive portrait reflects Paul Cabet's admiration for his master François Rude. A native of Dijon, Paul Cabet began his training there, before continuing at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris under the guidance of David d'Angers and François Rude. He later worked in Rude's studio and married his niece in 1853. Paul Cabet creates a portrait of his master, a bronze version of which adorns Rude's tomb.
