Maizeroy, René. - L'Adorée. Paris, Victor-Havard,1887. In-12, bound in full blue morocco. The first cover is decorated with mosaic interlacing in havana and brown morocco, set with fine gold fillets, 4 red roses in spandrels with stems and foliage set with fine gold fillets, vellum motifs on the 4 sides, including those in the center with small-iron motifs and a large central medallion with small-iron motifs containing the gilded title and revealing, in the hollowed-out oval slot, the portrait of a woman painted on a bone plate signed P. Jazet. The second cover is decorated with a double frame of listels in havana morocco, underlined by gilded fillets and dotted lines. The spine is mosaic-worked and decorated with small irons. The spine is mosaic-trimmed and adorned with petit fresco, with double gilt fillet on the edges, broad listel on the spine flaps with gilt framing and roulettes, water-green moire endpapers, gilt head, untrimmed copy (rel. Stikeman) - [4 ff. ], 243 pp., [1 f.], frontispiece portrait of Dumas fils. Unique copy, on Hollande, with 39 original compositions: 19 watercolors, 16 washes and 4 pen-and-ink drawings by P. Jazet, some dated 1889. Attached is a handwritten letter from Maizeroy to a friend, dated 18/08/1908, requesting bottles of Nectar Mariani "...to make up for weeks of idleness". Maizeroy had taken part in the advertising campaign for Mariani coca ( cf, Figures contemporaines, Mariani collection, 1899).
