This bust of Socrates is a derivation synthesizing the two ancient portraits of the philosopher attributed to the Greek sculptor Lysippus. These portraits are known from Roman replicas known as types A and B. The most famous examples are preserved in the Louvre Museum and the Archaeological Museum of Naples.
