Charles-Nicolas Odiot (1789-1869) Silver centerpiece 1st title 950‰, standing on a stepped base, chased with a frieze of posts and a torso of laurels. Two young women with draped legs joined by a garland of oak leaves lean against a paneled shaft supporting a large poly-lobed bowl, openwork with asparagus motifs underlined by fillets. The ends of the bowl are adorned with two putti holding garlands of flowers and fruit. The rim is chased with foliate gadroons, and symmetrically bears two large escutcheons with leather scrolls and foliage, engraved with a mavelot L applied to a D within a pearled border. French work, circa 1860. Marked by the workshop of Charles-Nicolas Odiot. Signed and numbered 7851. Inscribed with a French export mark, mercury head, and a Belgian import mark, effective between 1831 and 1868. Shocks, dents, restoration of the bowl support, lining missing. 52 x 60 x 32 cm approx. Weight 18800 g.
