Giacinto GIMIGNIANI (Pistoia 1606 - Rome 1681) The Martyrdom of Saint Lawrence Black stone, red chalk and watercolor. Inscribed lower left with Po. da cortona. 22 x 25.4 cm Provenance: anonymous sale, New York, Christie's, January 25, 2005, lot 31, reproduced. The attribution to Gimignani was suggested by Dr. Jörg Merz in 2008. Merz dates the drawing to the 1650s and adds that it is probably a presentation drawing. Two comparable presentation drawings are in the Pallavicini collection in Rome.
