Germaine RICHIER (1902-1959) - Lot 220
Germaine RICHIER (1902-1959) Robert, 1940 Head of Robert Müller at age 20. Plaster sculpture mounted on a natural wood monoxyl base, signed and dated on the neck. H. 50 cm with base 28 x 23 x 23 cm approx. excluding base The presence of this sculpture in Robert Müller's collection is justified by the fact that our sculptor, born in Zurich, was a pupil of Germaine Richier and Otto Bänninger, in the same city where the two Bourdelle pupils worked from 1939 to 1946. Bibliography: Françoise Guiter, sous la direction de Sophie Guiter, Germaine Richier, vie et œuvre, Catalogue raisonné Tome 1, 1918-1948, Milan, Silvana Editoriale, 2024, the model listed as n°80 page 398 under the title Robert and the date 1941. The catalog raisonné notes that only one bronze proof was cast from the original plaster during the artist's lifetime, and that a plaster print exists in a private collection (the copy reproduced in the catalog). Since the sculpture was originally created by Germaine Richier in clay, from which was cast the original plaster, which the catalog states no longer exists.
