Albert Bartholomé (1848 - 1928) Florence 1917 Patinated studio plaster Signed and dated on the side "ABartholomé.1917". 50 x 27.5 x 25.5 cm. A stone version of the bust of his second wife, Florence Bartholomé, Florence Bartholomé aux épis or Buste de Cérès is listed in the catalog raisonné under no. S. 60/E, now in the garden of a school in Pavilly (Seine-Maritime). First a painter and friend of Degas, then a sculptor from 1886 onwards, Albert Bartholomé made a name for himself with his important Monument aux Morts in the Père Lachaise cemetery, inaugurated in 1899. Regularly praised by the critics, and awarded the Grand Prix for Sculpture at the 1900 Universal Exhibition, Bartholomé enjoyed immense success during his lifetime.
