Albert Bartholomé (1848 - 1928) Fountain or Spring 1916 Plaster print Signed on the edge on the side "Bartholomé". 76 x 23 x 19 cm. La Source met with great success during the artist's lifetime. Several versions of La Fontaine or La Source in plaster, marble and six bronze are listed in Thérèse Burollet's catalog raisonné (2017), from which we can compare our marble plaster copy exhibited at the Salon de la Société Nationale des beaux-arts in 1896; listed under number 28/A and kept in the collections of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. Albert Bartholomé (1848 - 1928) First a painter and friend of Degas, then a sculptor from 1886 onwards, Albert Bartholomé is best known for his important Monument aux Morts in the Père Lachaise cemetery, inaugurated in 1899. Regularly praised by the critics, and awarded the Grand Prix for Sculpture at the 1900 Universal Exhibition, Bartholomé enjoyed immense success during his lifetime.
