19th century French school after Francesco Antommarchi (1789-1838) Death mask of Napoleon I Plaster proof Signed "F. ANTOMMARCHI". H. 35 cm Wear and soiling Emperor Napoleon's face was cast on May 5, 1821 by Francis Burton, Archibald Arnott and François Antommarchi respectively. While each of these three casts could be authenticated thanks to sources with differing opinions, the most widespread copies in the 19th and 20th centuries are taken from the mask executed by Antommarchi.
