Henriette de La Suze (1618-1673), granddaughter of Admiral de Coligny, was one of the very few women of the high nobility who did not hide the fact that she was a woman of letters. The number of editions of this collection, constantly enriched until the middle of the 18th century, shows both the esteem in which the countess was held and the prolonged success of the galant poetry favored in the 17th century. The success of this collection, among the many others of the 17th century, is undoubtedly due to its pleasant blend of prose and verse. In addition to Mme de La Suze and Pellisson's own works, it includes verses by Mlle de Scudéry, Mme de La Fayette's La Princesse de Montpensier, Bussy Rabutin's Maximes d'Amour, and Charles Perrault's Le Miroir and Dialogue de l'Amour et de l'Amitié. Last but not least, Mme de La Suze's Ode à Christine de Suède, in which the sovereign is described as the "azile des beaux esprits".
