Turquoise-blue and yellow ochre glazed stoneware GOURDE, decorated with a lotus medallion on one side and a chrysanthemum medallion on the other, the foot left in reserve. The spout is cut, with small chips. China, Ming dynasty, 16th century. H. 18.5 cm Purchased from Galerie Duchange on January 7, 1960. Bears under the base an old label R. Duchange 12 rue des St Pères Paris 7th - 16th century. This ceramic takes the form of the metal gourds used by pilgrims in the ancient Middle East.
