A Lobi male sculpture of remarkable presence. Treated in vigorous lines, the hieratic face inspires both the introspection of the subject and the deference imposed on the observer. The tension mastered in the treatment of the body, with salt shakers flush with the epidermis above the pectoral muscles, short arms in strict prolongation of the bust, and tapered legs, is also evident.
The morphological type of this large sculpture, known locally as thilkotina, which enlivened the thilduù (the sacred chamber of the houses), is thought to have appeared in the village of Holly around the 1850s, where the master sculptor Magnuor Palé was born, and to have continued until the 1955s. The addition of the name of the village where he settled and lived until his last days, Keko, gives its designation to the identified style, and with it the recognition of an artist's hand and descendants.
