Carlo SARRABEZOLLES (1888-1971) Centaur... - Lot 186 - Crait + Müller
Carlo SARRABEZOLLES (1888-1971) Centaur and Siren Circa 1951-1952. Pair of stone sculptures. Signed C. Sarrabezolles. H. 136 cm each Made in pendant, these two stone figures of a Siren and a Centaur sculpted in the round were commissioned from sculptor Carlo Sarrabezolles by a private collector around 1951-1952. Plaster studies and bronzes were produced by the Coubertin foundry in 2000. Carlo Sarrabezolles trained at the École des Beaux-Arts in Toulouse and then in Paris. He joined the Ateliers d'art sacré, exhibited regularly at the Salon des Artistes français and took part in several international exhibitions, including the 1925 Decorative Arts Exhibition, the 1937 Arts et Techniques Exhibition and the 1939 New York International Exhibition. It was during this period, in 1927, that Sarrabezolles developed the technique of direct carving in set concrete, which he applied to the creation of numerous sculptural decors.
