Jean Suzanne (b. 1938) Leninakan, 1998 Elements in welded bronze with green and gold shaded patina Monogrammed on the back: "JS". 31 x 20 x 10 cm An electronics design engineer, Jean Suzanne also devoted himself to sculpture. In 1975, when he left Paris for the Quercy region, he set up his own sculpture workshop. From 1985 onwards, he devoted himself entirely to sculpture. A self-taught sculptor, Suzanne began by working in wood and stone, before turning to bronze and metal. His artistic research is marked by his attraction to the ruins of war, as reflected in the fractured lines and jagged planes of the sculptures presented here. His sculptural work is mainly based on a play of textures, between the raw aspect and the polishing of materials. Driven by the construction of volumes in space and the principle of aerodynamics, Suzanne constantly seeks to simplify forms and purify planes. He combines concave, convex and geometric forms, as in Leninakan (1998). Although far removed from the Parisian art scene, Jean Suzanne has taken part in several group shows and Parisian salons over the years. His work is exhibited in group shows in France and abroad, notably in Japan with La Brèche (1993). He was honored by the town of Montauban in 1986, then by the Hakone Museum in Tokyo, Japan, which awarded him the Henry Moore Prize.
