Vigoureux" lower right H. 100 cm Small chips Provenance: Artist's studio; by descent Introduced to woodcarving in his father's studio and tutored by Jean Dampt and Georges Loi-seau-Bailly, Pierre Vigoureux entered the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris in 1902. He exhibited regularly at the Salon des Artistes français from 1906 to 1919, as well as at the Salons d'Automne and des Tuileries. During the inter-war period, he produced a number of war memorials. Later, he designed a series of small polychrome stone works on the theme of rural work and genre scenes in the style of Provençal santons, currently housed at the Musée de la Vie Bourguignonne in Dijon.
