Paris, Hetzel, 1845-1846. 2 volumes large in-8, half brown morocco of the time with small corners, fine gilt roulettes on the boards, spines decorated smooth slightly rubbed, small hole at the upper cap of volume 1, tiny worm hole at the upper bit of volume 2, scattered freckles, upper hinge of the first volume worn. First edition of the engravings. One of the most famous romantic illustrated books. Gavarni was surrounded, for the texts by the most famous writers of the time of which Balzac, Eugène Sue, George Sand, P.-J.Stahl, Alphonse Karr, Nerval, Gozlan, Gautier, Musset... 2/ Nus, Eugène and Meray, Antony. Inspired by the anthopomorphic animal illustrations of Grandville with whom he had collaborated, Varin entrusts to plants the task of representing the ridiculousness of the time. Carrots, radishes, cabbages and turnips are found in the fine part, in the gallery of the room, play the cushions or make a scene of household.
