Paulian, P. Aimé-Henri - Dictionnaire de Physique, dédié à Monseigneur le duc de Berry. Avignon, Louis Chambeau, 1761. 3 volumes in-4 bound in contemporary fawn calf, spine ribbed and decorated, red edges, superficial epidermal marks on the boards, corners rubbed, upper head of volumes 1 and 2 worn, spine of the first volume partly detached, one nerve damaged, jaws rubbed, a few small wormholes without seriousness, scattered freckles - xvj, xlix, [1], 620 pp, title vignette by Brupachet (repeated on each volume), 3 headbands and 5 folding plates; [1 f.], xlviij, 621 pp. (misquoted 921), headband and 7 folding plates (ff. 91 and 95 inverted); [1 f.], xxiv, 528 pp., headband and 4 folding plates. Professor of physics at the Jesuit college of Avignon, Paulian (1722-1801), surfing on the vogue of scientific researches in the aristocratic circles, published this work intended both for an amateur public and for students. The work was a great success and was republished several times. His talent as a popularizer allowed him to explain in a clear way Newton's physics, which he put forward in this Dictionary.
