Cuvier (1769-1832), was one of the founders of modern comparative anatomy by stating the principle of subordination of organs and correlation of forms. Partisan of the fixity of species, he was violently opposed to Lamarck's transformism, but his contribution to science was essential, particularly thanks to his work in the field of anatomy.
