[Count of Artois] Faciot, Charles Robert. Couplets of the Rose and the Lily, allegory of the passage of Madame de France to Fontenai aux Roses, approved by Monsieur le comte Duhamel, prefect of the department of the Eastern Pyrenees on May 4, 1814, offered to his royal highness Monsieur, brother of the best of kings. - 1 handwritten volume (18 x 12 cm) bound in red morocco, double fillet and border, smooth spine decorated with fleurs-de-lis. - 2 corners pierced, small accident at the head edge of the upper board, with worm gallery. - 25 ff. n. ch. Scores of songs with guitar accompaniment. - Interesting testimony of fidelity (or sycophancy) offered to the Count of Artois, brother of Louis XVIII, on the occasion of his first return to France after the abdication of Napoleon I. It is a small vaudeville given by the inhabitants of Fontenay aux Roses in honor of Marie-Thérèse, duchess of Angoulême, daughter of Louis XVI. Following are excerpts from the play "Mémorables journées des 30 et 31 mars 1814", performed on April 24, 1814 in Perpignan, as well as the harangue given to the Princess of Bourbon in Perpignan upon her return to France. The author, who lived in Montmartre, then became famous for the manufacture of cashmere fabrics, which were distinguished at the exhibitions of industrial products in 1827 and 1828.
