André Deluol (1909-2003) Two women embracing, c. 1930 Direct carving on granite Signed underneath : " A.DELUOL ". 38 x 25,5 x 21 cm André Deluol was born in Valence (Drôme) in 1909. He arrived in Paris in 1928 and joined the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in the painting and fresco section. In 1930, he turned to sculpture and exhibited at the Salon des Tuileries. His first sculpture, Adam and Eve, was critically acclaimed. He was fascinated by the art of the Khmers, which most certainly influenced him in Two Women Embracing. He exhibited regularly at the Salons and received numerous state commissions, including a terracotta bas-relief for the Sèvres pavilion at the 1937 International Exhibition. At the end of his life, he settled in Saint-Michel en l'Herm (Vendée) which became his own museum. His works are also preserved in the Museum of Modern Art of the City of Paris.
