Du Boccage, Anne-Marie Le Page, dame. - Le Paradis terrestre, poem imitated from Milton, increased and corrected by the author and enriched with intaglio figures. Followed by : Le Prix alternatif entre les Belles-lettres et les Sciences, poem which won the prize of the academy of Rouen distributed for the first time on July 12, 1746. London, [Rouen ?, s.n.], 1755. 1 vol. in-8, bound in marbled calf with boards decorated with a triple fillet, spine smoothly decorated, necks decorated with a chain, inside decorated with a small framing roulette, edges gilt - Joints worn - VIII, 122 pp. with portrait, frontispiece and 7 engraved compositions. A woman of letters in a world dominated by men, Anne-Marie du Boccage (1710-1802) was a resounding success both in her poems and in her plays, which earned her the detestation of a certain number of her male colleagues but also the admiration of Voltaire, Fontenelle and Marivaux, and allowed her to join prestigious provincial and foreign academies. A feminist before her time, Mme du Boccage did not hesitate to tackle the "great genres" which were in principle reserved for men.
