Bourrienne, [Louis-Antoine Fauvelet de]. - Memoirs... on Napoleon, the Directory, the Consulate, the Empire and the Restoration. Paris, Ladvocat, 1829. 10 volumes in-8, bound in fawn half-calf, spine ribbed and decorated with stamped fleurons, gilt fillets and gilt roulettes, gilt title and tomaison, marbled edges - small snags at the tailbone of volumes 8, 9 and 10 - Copy in good condition inside, except for rare freckles - [2 ff, fx-title and title repeated in the ten volumes], then 396, 393, 389, 434, 402, 426, 432, 424, 428, 468 pp. - All volumes are in first edition. According to Tulard (211), the paternity of these memoirs would be due to Ch. de Villemarest who would have carried out this work from Bourrienne's notes. In any case, the work is particularly sought after for Bonaparte's youth and the blockade of Hamburg. According to Arthur Chouquet (La jeunesse de Bonaparte) "One will find there... to take and to learn". Good copy in period binding.
Attached : [Buloz, A.]. - Bourrienne and his voluntary or involuntary errors, or Observations on his memoirs. Paris, Charles Heideloff & Urbain Canel, 1830. 2 volumes in-8 in bindings identical to the memoirs - [2 ff.], 407 pp; [2 ff.], 403 pp. - First edition of this rare work which completes and corrects Bourrienne's Mémoires. It contains letters from several Empire figures: generals Belliard and Gourgaud, counts d'Aure, de Survilliers, Bonacossi, Boulay de La Meurthe, barons Meneval and Massias, prince d'Eckmuhl, minister de Stein and Cambaceres. This set is rarely found together.
