Ferdinand LOYEN DU PUIGAUDEAU (1864-1930) - Lot 134
Ferdinand LOYEN DU PUIGAUDEAU (1864-1930) Brière landscape at sunset Oil on canvas. Signed lower left. Small chips and lifts. 65 x 81 cm In this fabulously luminous work, Puigaudeau demonstrates his total mastery of the magic of the night landscape. The tree in the foreground is backlit by a powerful rising moon and haloed by orange reflections, while the slender silhouette of a man on a boat emerges from the landscape in a bluish glow. The sky, marbled with pink and blue gradations, adds a dynamic, expressive touch to this calm, mysterious landscape. Settled in Le Croisic since 1907 in his manor house at Kervaudu, Puigaudeau painted La Brière and the Guérande peninsula. The painter uses a preparatory underpainting technique, ranging from pink to orange, to accentuate the effect and vibrancy of the color. The result is an almost unreal light that amplifies the shimmering effect of nature under the artist's brush". This painting is listed in the Du Puigaudeau archives compiled by Monsieur Antoine Laurentin. Mr. Laurentin can issue a certificate of authenticity at the purchaser's expense.
