Jean LETOURNEUR (1954) - Lot 189
Jean LETOURNEUR (1954) Sand in motion 2001 Luminous coffee table, direct-cut Carrara marble and fiber optics Signed (on edge) : LETOURNEUR 01 Base in hematite-patinated steel and brushed aluminum 39 x 84 x 134 cm A technical note will be given to the purchaser. This sculpture-furniture belongs to Méharées (see cat. nos. 184 and 186), a group of works united by theme and spirituality. For the Sable en mouvement relief, Jean Letourneur started from two life-size casts, which he then plastered and assembled. Once his composition is fixed and the reliefs reworked, Jean Letourneur uses his plaster as a model to execute his marble relief in direct carving. The relief is mounted on a coffee table, and the artist uses low-angled lighting in all four corners to animate the marble surface and emphasize the composition. The cross-shaped composition of Saint-André de Sable in motion echoes that of a sketch by Leonardo da Vinci. In this drawing, the Italian artist noted his observations on fluid mechanics, the science of which he was the inventor (see 2020 SCHEPS MAUREL, p. 99, repr.). Exhibitions : - 2009, Fontenay-aux-Roses, médiathèque: Méharées. - 2012, Meudon, center d'art et de culture: La quête de l'unité. Bibliography: - 2020 LETOURNEUR, fig. 15, p. 9, repr. - 2020 SCHEPS MAUREL, p. 98.
