Laurits TUXEN (1853-1927) Young fishermen playing cards on the beach (probably Brittany), 1879 Oil on canvas. Signed and dated lower right. 97 x 140.5 cm Large stuccoed and gilded wood frame. Tuxen, a history and portrait painter and sculptor, joined Léon Bonnat's studio in Paris in 1874. He belonged to the Danish "Skagen Painters" movement. The Scandinavian artists in this group produced realistic, colorful landscapes. He had a very official career with the Danish royal court.
