Raymond Bigot (1872-1953) Owl Ink wash, watercolor and gouache, overlaid with pencil H. 28.5 x L. 44.4 cm on view A native of Normandy, Raymond Bigot developed a passion for woodcarving at an early age. He then studied drawing and decorative arts in Paris. His extensive body of animal sculptures and drawings bears witness to his close observation of different species, particularly birds, to which he attributes a lively, authentic personality. The transparency of his ink washes reveals his admiration for Japanese art.
