Aimé-Jules DALOU (1838-1902) Bust of a sleeping baby Model created between 1872 and 1878. Bronze with brown patina. Signed DALOU under the right shoulder. Bears the stamp of the founder CIRE PERDUE A.A. HEBRARD. H. 18,5 cm, rests on a cherry red base H. 7,5 cm Motherhood and childhood were themes dear to Aimé-Jules Dalou during his exile in England. The Bust of a Sleeping Baby was originally a study for the group Parisienne allaitant (Paris, Petit Palais, inv. PPS298), the marble of which was exhibited at the Salon of the Royal Academy in London in 1872. It can be found in other compositions by the sculptor, notably in the Lullaby and the Monument to the Grandchildren of Queen Victoria. The model of this charming bust was produced in marble during the artist's lifetime and in bronze by the Hébrard foundry according to a contract established by the heirs in 1902.
