Marcel Damboise (1903-1992) - Lot 165
Marcel Damboise (1903-1992) Bas-relief of the Callipyge Nymph, 1947-1954 Studio plaster with traces of development Unsigned 53 x 16 cm Provenance: Artist's studio, by descent The posture of this callipyge nymph evokes those of Jean Goujon's figures as well as those of Hindu temples. At the same time, Marcel Damboise executed numerous bas-reliefs as part of official commissions for buildings in Algiers or its surroundings. The Callipyge nymph is a counterpart to the bas-relief of the Hommage au sculpteur, but the location of the two remains unknown. There are several plaster casts and terracottas of these two reliefs.
