Flaubert, Gustave - Chahine, Edgar - November. Paris, Devambez, 1928. Large in-4, bound in full red morocco, boards decorated with a frame formed by three series of a quintuple gilt fillet intertwined at the corners, spine ribbed and decorated in the same style, fawn morocco covers with a large floral mosaic frame (green, red, (green, red, pink and white) surrounded by a double gilt fillet and a frame of small dots, edges gilt, half maroon morocco cover folder with bands on the spine very slightly lightened, lined slipcase, covers and spine preserved (Binding by Maylander) - [3 ff.], 118 pp, 3 ff. Illustrated with 21 original etchings and drypoints by Edgard Chahine in black, 10 of which are full-page. Edition at 238 numbered copies, 1/50 copies on Japon impérial (n° 39) containing the etchings in two states, one with remarks and an original sketch by the artist in red chalk. Written in 1842 (Flaubert was 21 years old), this novel was never published during his lifetime. It was published for the first time in 1910 in the collection of his unpublished youth works. Superb binding by Maylander.
