Joé Descomps-Cormier (1869-1950) Woman with a meridian Bronze with brown patina Signed "JB. Cormier". Bears the founder's stamp "CIRE PERDUE / LEBLANC-BARBEDIENNE / A PARIS". Bears the number "144" on the terrace H. 46.5 cm, terrace W. 58.5 x D. 18 cm, on a sea-green marble base H. 4.5 x W. 61 x D. 21.3 cm Accident to a corner of the base Joseph-Jules-Emmanuel Descomps, also known as Joseph Cormier or Joé Descomps, trained with sculptors Louis-Auguste Hiolin and Alexandre Falguière. He was a regular participant in the Salon des Artistes français from 1891 to 1937. A sculptor as well as a chaser and master goldsmith, his talent and mastery of bronze chasing are reflected in his production of Art Deco statuettes.
