A student of Antoine-Louis Barye and Auguste Ottin, Hippolyte Moulin was a committed sculptor. Deeply involved in the Paris Commune, he founded the Fédération des artistes de la Commune de Paris in April 1871, alongside Gustave Courbet and Eugène Pottier.
