Joseph de Guignes (1721-1800) was a famous orientalist, secretary-interpreter of the Royal Library for oriental languages, professor of Syriac at the Collège de France, and later guard of antiques at the Louvre. His new approach to Asian history consists in reconciling the accounts of Western historians with those of Chinese and Muslim writers. The first volume is entirely devoted to the Chronological & Historical Tables of the Princes who reigned in Asia. An unusual work in a beautiful presentation.
