COLLECTOR'S OPTICS BOX that went from fair... - Lot 271 - Crait + Müller
COLLECTOR'S OPTICS BOX that went from fair to fair and from village to village in the 18th century, around 1750. In order to transport it easily, it was packaged. The folding sides (hinged system) and two wrought iron handles made it easy to carry. The peddler presented his optical views in order to sell them. The lighting was done either naturally, by a back trapdoor, or by candles placed at the bottom of the device. The pierced views gave the illusion of a night lighting. It was also a very nice way to educate oneself or to travel in time and space. Rare piece built in oak with its original lens. The lid of the box has been restored because the wood burned by the candles had to be replaced. With three optical views. Open box : 96 x 50 x 32 cm Closed box : 28 x 50 x 32 cm
