[Album Amicorum] - Guizelin, Virginie de.... - Lot 140 - Crait + Müller
[Album Amicorum] - Guizelin, Virginie de. - Recollections. [1812-1871]. Oblong album, bound in dark blue long-grained morocco, boards framed with a row of pearls and a palmette scroll, smooth spine, monogram VG on the first board, title "Souvenir" on the last board - Pierce on the first board, snags on the tail cover, corners pierced - 57 ff., several pencil or pen drawings and a watercolour representing the castle of Bienassise in Guines (62). A charming album kept by Antoinette Virginie de Guizelin (1795-1874) in which she collected the testimonies of friendship and tenderness of her friends or boarding school mistresses. Most of them are dated 1812. The album will later collect some other testimonies from friends and visitors as well as personal notes that give a glimpse of the destiny of this young girl, who was married in 1820 to the Count of Guillebon, of whom she had four sons, mentioned on the last page of the album, and who died in 1874. She is the ancestor of General Jacques de Guillebon (1909-1985).
