DE PAS, Jonathan (1932–1991); D'URBINO, Donato (1935); LOMAZZI, Paolo (1936); SCOLARI, Carla ZANOTTA (Edited by) “Blow” inflatable armchair, made of high-frequency-welded transparent polyvinyl chloride film, with a seat featuring a removable cushion, and a backrest and armrests formed from cylindrical tubes. It comes with a carrying case, a foot pump, and a repair kit. Model created in 1967 H 72 cm – W 110 cm – D 90 cm - History: The “Blow,” the first mass-produced inflatable chair, was unveiled at the Milan Furniture Fair in 1968. Its construction relies on the high-frequency welding of cut PVC sheets, a process that alone made it possible to achieve its structure and transparency. Designed to be inexpensive and short-lived—contrary to the conventional wisdom of expensive, durable furniture—it immediately became a pop culture icon. Examples of the model are held at the Centre Pompidou in Paris (inv. AM 2007-1-38), the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. - Bibliography: Giuliana Gramigna, “1950/1980 Repertorio. Immagini e contributi per una storia dell’arredo italiano,” Milan, Mondadori, 1985, model illustrated on p. 248.
