A collection of 31 texts and folk or revolutionary songs fr - Lot 490
A collection of 31 texts and folk or revolutionary songs from the early 19th century, including *La Marseillaise* (8 from Poitiers, 13 from Niort, 3 from Saumur, 1 from Paris, and 6 of unknown origin).
Also included:
Bigorne, who devours all men who are under their wives’ thumb. A mid-19th-century facsimile of a 15th-century play—4 ff., small in-4 on laid paper. The play is illustrated with two repeated woodcuts depicting a very well-fed animal named “Bigorne,” as he feeds only on men who are under their wives’ thumb. In contrast, his companion “Chicheface,” another mythical figure from folk lore, who feeds only on women who do not contradict their husbands, is very thin by nature, finding little food.
