Paris, Plon, 1954–1956. 3 large in-8 volumes bound in full black leather for Volumes I (blue) and III (red) and in full ivory parchment for Volume II, with blue and red endpapers and blue-and-white or red-and-white interior headbands; covers and spines preserved, gilded lettering—the head, spine, and covers of Vol. I are worn—E.A.S. “To Miss Rachel Ford in memory of the great ordeal, respectfully! Ch. de Gaulle. 8.12.54.” Rachel Ford was a prominent figure in the Free French Forces. Upon liberation, she became General de Gaulle’s right-hand woman and later worked for Charlie Chaplin.
