Folio format (32.5 x 25.4 cm), paperback with a gray cloth-like cover, titled and illustrated with a skull—cover slightly worn, some edges very slightly frayed— [2 ff. introduction], [24 ff.], [1 f. colophon] - A loose-leaf volume comprising an introduction and texts by Grégoire Le Roy serving as epitaphs for the 24 characters taken by death—from the Actor to the Zealot—and illustrated by Offel (complete). The letters W and Y were not included. Printed in an edition of 250 copies, one of the 200 on English laid paper (unjustified) following 50 on Japanese paper. First Edition. Offel (1885–1924) was a French-speaking Belgian artist, painter, draftsman, watercolorist, caricaturist, and a talented illustrator with a caustic sense of humor. *L'Alphabet macabre* is a posthumous work published to support his wife and children.
