Becker, Léon. - Alphabet of Birds. Bibliothèque d'Éducation et de Récréation, J. Hetzel & Co., [1879]. AB Catalog for 1880. Percaline with a green background and beveled covers decorated with an embossed floral pattern; on the front cover, the frame is gilded, as is the central medallion depicting a bird feeding its young; on the back cover, the central medallion features a border of Greek scrolls, the inscription “Collection J. Hetzel / Paris,” and in the center, three children (plate by A. Souze)—scattered foxing, a stain on two leaves, slight misalignment— [24 ff., frontispiece, title page, alphabet book], [4 ff. of catalog]. The letters NO, RQ, WX, and YZ are grouped together. Except for the main letter of each entry in the alphabet, the text is set in red. Illustrated by Becker with animals parodying humans in the style of Grandville.
